6 Reasons To Plan A Trip To San Jose

If you’re looking for something new to do in Costa Rica, I highly recommend planning a trip to San Jose. This city has so much to offer and is unlike anywhere else in the country. Here are six reasons why you need to plan a trip to San Jose:

Travelling to San Jose gives you a chance to try their famous Costa Rican coffee.

Coffee is a big deal in San Jose. It’s the capital of Costa Rica, after all. As such, it is home to quite a few coffee plantations and roasters who produce some of the best brews in Central America. It’s not just about tasting the different varieties at local shops; you can also learn about how coffee is grown and processed through tours of these plantations throughout the city.

There is an incredible national park nearby that is worth the trip.

As you can see above, there are many wonderful things to do in San Jose and the surrounding areas. If you're looking for something to do that will get you away from city life but still give you an experience of Costa Rica's beauty and culture, consider planning a trip to Parque Nacional Volcan Poas. This park is the second most visited national park in Costa Rica, so it's not like it's some secret spot only people who know someone who knows someone else can visit. But if this is your first time visiting, then you'll be in for quite the treat!

The park includes three different sections: Los Gemelos (the twins), Miravalles Volcano and Vulcan Poas Volcano. Each of these sections has its own unique offerings. While hiking through Los Gemelos, visitors will find themselves surrounded by lush green foliage and pristine streams that flow down from above—the perfect way to escape urban stressors while still experiencing some nature therapy! Visitors can also choose among several different trails that lead up into both volcanoes within this area: one goes all the way up to point 1234 meters high on Miravalles; another takes visitors past waterfalls before reaching an overlook at around 950 meters above sea level on Vulcan Poas; another takes hikers further down into the crater where they'll see views of both volcanoes at once!

The people of San Jose have a different culture than other parts of the country.

The people of San Jose have a different culture than other parts of the country. In many ways, they're more "modern" than their fellow Costa Ricans. They are more likely to speak English, have college educations, and be white (or at least not indigenous). This is not to say that all of these qualities aren't shared by other parts of Costa Rica—they are—but it's fair to say that the capital city has a higher concentration of them than elsewhere in the country.

The reason for this phenomenon has to do with history: San Jose only became an official city back in 1823 after being founded as an agricultural outpost by Spanish colonists over two centuries earlier. Therefore, it didn't see much growth until modern times when its population began growing rapidly due to migration from elsewhere in Latin America (mostly Nicaragua). Today San Jose boasts nearly two million inhabitants while other major cities like Liberia or Puntarenas only come close with 200k each.

Stay in a hotel that has its own coffee plantation.

One of the best ways to learn about coffee is by visiting a plantation. Not only will you be able to see how it's grown, but you can also taste the different stages of roasting and try making your own cup of Joe. And if you're lucky enough to stay at a hotel that has its own coffee plantation, then you'll have access to even more opportunities for learning and tasting!

For example, The Hilton San Jose offers guests complimentary tours of their organic mountain farm as well as freshly roasted beans for purchase during your stay. Another option would be Hotel Paseo de Los Palos Grandes in Santa Barbara (which is worth checking out for its unique architecture alone). They offer everything from guided tours through their 270-acre farm to fully immersive experiences where participants get up close with 80% shade-grown Arabica plants from the seedling stage all the way up until harvest time—and even get hands-on experience with picking, trimming and drying processes involved in producing high-quality coffee beans!
