The best quality goods are often found in bazaars that live in larger cities such as Delhi, Mumbai (Bombay), Kolkata (Calcutta) and Chennai (Madras). Literally thousands of places - between quaint shops and street stalls - sell handicrafts to visitors.

Rajasthan and Kashmir are the two largest handicraft manufacturers for mass distribution. In Rajasthan, fabrics, jewellery, glass, ceramics, carpets and camel leather products can be purchased. Products made in Kashmir are dominated by rugs, shawls and embroidery. These are often considered to be the best quality products.

Many tribal communities in India produce unusual handicrafts that are popular with tourists. These artisans include the wire animal Takashi of Orissa and the large bronze statues of Nagaland. The Himalayan areas produce huge amounts of silver, turquoise and coral jewellery.

Dzukou Valley, Nagaland, India The place resides in north-eastern part of India, spread across Nagaland and Manipur. It takes 5 hours of trekking to reach this place, and by the time you do its already late in the evening, so no sight-seeing.You rest for the night in a guesthouse at the top of the hill. As the chill of the morning wakes you up and you go out see the first light and feel its warmth, you surprising get this spectacular breathtaking view. Every time I look at the picture, it reminds me of that morning, that calm atmosphere, the fresh air, the rich colors of nature, a true paradise far away from reality.

Indian jewellery stores specialize in shiny 22-carat gold. Many local tribes trade in traditional silver jewellery for the more widely preferred gold. Jewellers have silver jewellery in bags that the pound can sell. Trays, cups and plates are processed from brass and copper. The best of these is located in Varanasi.

Mentioning handicrafts in India would not be complete without mentioning Bidriwork, which is a speciality of Aurangabad and Hyderabad. This handcrafted matte gun leather alloy is finely plated with silver and gold. It is then used to make boxes, vases and hugs, or water pipes. These will surely be given to everyone who receives them.

Amritsar, India The past couple of days, I spent my time in Amritsar, Punjab which happens to a historically super significant place in India’s independence struggle against the Brits, a Mecca of the Sikhs and foodies paradise since majority of the North Indian dishes originate from here. Here is one photo of The Golden Temple, the most important religious site for the Sikhs. Apart from being a religious site, it also serves free, volunteer driven meals throughout the day and is the largest free kitchen in the world with over 100,000 delicious 3 course meals on a daily basis.
